11. GOD’S LAW OF LOVE
Thank You, we have received your form.
  • GOD’S LAW OF LOVE

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if we didn’t have any rules or laws? Driving would be very dangerous. There wouldn’t be any laws that would protect our cars or homes or possessions. There wouldn’t even be any laws to protect us from people who would want to hurt us. Life would be terrifying.

Well, a God of order and love felt the same way. He doesn’t want anyone to get hurt or be sad or in trouble. He wants us to be happy and safe! So God gave us some rules to live by to save us from a lot of pain and unhappiness. Let’s find out more about His 10 commandments.

  • 1. Who wrote the Ten Commandments? (Exodus 31:18)

  • 2. What was David’s attitude towards God’s law? (Psalm 119:164-168)

  • 3. How does God describe King David? (Acts 13: 21, 22)

  • Note: David loved God and was obedient to His law. And God in turn called David “a man after His own heart”. Obedience is important to God.

  • 4. What did Jesus say about those who obey the word of God? (Luke 11:28)

  • 5. What did Jesus say we are to do if we love Him? (John 14:15, 21, 23, 24, 15:10)

  • Note: Obedience is very important to God. Would we show our love to our parents if we told them we loved them but never listened to them or respected them? No, and it’s the same way with God. He gives us laws for our protection and when we don’t listen to Him, our lives become very unhappy and confusing.

  • 6. What is our “natural” response to God’s law? (Romans 8:7)

  • Note: Because of our sinful heart we don’t like to listen to anyone. We like to do things our own way.

  • 7. How then can we obey God’s law? (Ezekiel 36:25-27)

  • Note: It’s like someone who is homeless and is eating out of garbage cans. You can try to help them by feeding them, giving them a bath and putting new clothes on them but every chance they get they will still try to run away, put on their old clothes and pick food out of garbage cans. Their attitude has to change. And it’s the same way with us.

Until we ask Jesus to come into our life, we are happy living a life filled with sin and unhappiness. And just like the homeless man, we don’t even realize it. But once we turn over our life to God, He begins to cleanse us and change us for our own happiness. He delights to do this for us because He loves us.

  • 8. What are God’s ten laws called? (Exodus 20: 1-17)

  • Law #1(v. 3)

  • Law #2(v.4-6)

  • Law #3(v. 7)

  • Law #4(v. 8-11)

  • Law #5(v. 12)

  • Law #6(v. 13)

  • Law #7(v. 14)

  • Law #8(v. 15)

  • Law #9(v. 16)

  • Law #10(v. 17)

  • Note: The first four laws show our love to God and the last six laws show our love to other people. When we ignore any of these commands it shows our disrespect to either God or our fellow man.

  • 9. How is love to God shown? (1 John 5:3)

  • 10. What is clear of those who rebel and do not obey? (1 John 2:3-5)

  • 11. How are God’s people described in the last days? (Rev. 12:17; Rev. 14:12)

  • CONCLUSION: It is important to God that we obey Him. He gives us rules for our own good. Just like a loving Father He wants to love and protect us. Without His help we cannot keep any of His commandments. Because we are born with a sinful heart we do not even want to obey Him. But if we ask Him into our heart He will begin to clean and heal us. We will begin to want to obey Him and we will begin to live full and happy lives.

    Dear Jesus,
Come into my heart so you can help me to obey you. I trust you!
