  • “Self-Inflicted Wounds”

    By Pastor Mike

“For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:2–14)

Some people accuse God of being unfair, and point to examples of apparent injustice by God. But, for the most part, people charge God with evil because they are not happy with their own lives. To blame God for the circumstances of life is to be ignorant of the facts. Jesus set the record straight in the Parable of the Wedding Feast. A king invited quests of his realm to his son’s wedding, but the invitees were unhappy and did not go. Amazingly, the king asked a second time! But they still refused and even killed his messengers! So the king sent troops and wiped out those who committed this evil. What a tragic scene! But whose fault was it? The kings, or those who did the heinous acts? Jesus gave insight saying... “The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.” (Matthew 22:8)

Wanting to celebrate his sons’ great occasion, the king graciously invited all in his realm to the wedding! But even then, one was found treating the king’s high honor with disdain. The king mercifully asked... Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ [the man] was speechless.(Matthew 22:12) This man refused to show the king’s son the honor he deserved, and he incurred the kings wrath for it. Why? Because he treated the king and his son in the same manner as the wicked! People can say what they will against God, but God is the author of all life! The apostle Paul wrote... But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” (Romans 9:20)

People have no excuse for the outcome of their decision to reject the Gospel. It has gone out as an invitation to receive the gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ! So, take heart! God is not mocked! Instead, let us be thankful and rejoice that we have joyfully received God’s wonderful invitation!

    Godspeed!
