  • “We Must Train In Order to Remain”

    By Pastor Mike

“Train up a child in the way he should go,

and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

First of all, I want you to know that this verse is not a guarantee that your child will never go astray in their childhood development. Solomon later says... “Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of correction will drive it far from him.” (Proverbs 22:15)  So our kids will be kids in their “wonder years.” But, training is a way to direct a person’s life onto a path that will bring a good result. Training brings memory to our muscles and helps them repeat a desired action. The same is true of the whole person. When we help others to direct their ways in the Lord, they will often find the best way to achieve personal holiness. Rather than attempting to beat someone into submission, try words of encouragement. As the Apostle Peter said, “For this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue... knowledge... self-control... perseverance... godliness... brotherly kindness, and love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.“ (2 Peter 1:5–8 italics mine)

Training in this manner will remind all of the goodness of the Lord! In times of wandering, people search for all kinds of answers. But, “He who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. (Psalm 32:10) So, let us “train in order to remain” and see the good results the Lord will bring to our lives.

    Blessings to you all!
