  • Matthew 5:31-32

"You have heard that the law of Moses says, 'A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a letter of divorce.' 32But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

    1. There are issues that many pulpits don’t like to deal with because they might _______.
  • 2. The pulpit, not sociologists, must be the place where ________ ________ are dealt with. Our country has fallen to where it is today because we are no longer salty enough or bright enough to impact our culture.

  • Deuteronomy 24:1

"Suppose a man marries a woman but later discovers something about her that is shameful. So he writes her a letter of divorce, gives it to her, and sends her away.

  • 3. Before you can understand what divorce is you must first be sure you understand what marriage is…_________ marriage.

  • 4. The first step in the marriage process is to LEAVE anything from my pre-marriage days that would __________ the marriage.

  • 5. To cleave is not a picture of attraction. It doesn’t mean that I go and attach myself to her as I am attracted to her. Cleave means to _________ to go to her with my mind, body, and soul.

  • 6. The two will work so hard at cleaving that they begin to ___________ as one.

  • 7. Scripture teaches us about God’s divine concession for our human frail and sinful state where marriage and divorce is concerned. There appear to be three cases for the permission of divorce:

  • a. When marriage and divorce take place _________ to salvation.

    2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

  • b. When one mate is guilty of sexual infidelity and is ___________ to repent and live faithfully with the marriage partner.

    Matthew 19:9

I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."

  • c. When a believing spouse is ____________ by a non-believing spouse. I Corinthians 7:15

(But if the husband or wife who isn't a Christian insists on leaving, let them go. In such cases, the Christian husband or wife is not required to stay with them, for God wants his children to live in peace.) NLT

  • 8. These are not divorce ______________. These are instructions necessary due to our fallen state. Otherwise a vow is a vow!
