Dear Union Church Family,
Can you believe it’s almost May? Last year it felt like time stopped and now it’s flying as things slowly come back to life outside and around the community. PTL!
May, of course, is the month for graduation and graduation parties. How fun it will be to celebrate with the culmination of high school and college with our seniors, especially given the challenge and difficulties of this pandemic year! On Sunday, June 6th we will be celebrating all the work that these students, their families and this church body have done to prepare them for what’s next. Make sure to get that date on your calendar. Just a reminder, if you would like your graduate recognized, please reach out to Ashley in the church office.
This celebration will be a good reminder for us to reflect on how we spend our time. Psalm 90 says “the length of our days is seventy years —or eighty, if we have the strength, yet their span is but trouble and sorry, for they quickly pass and we fly away…” Therefore, “teach us to number our days aright that we can gain a heart of wisdom.” (vv. 10,12) The psalmist challenges us to examine our days in the light of eternity. You can ask any senior’s parent, and they will confirm that the old adage is true, “the hours are long, but the years are short.” I’m about to cry!
This coming Sunday we will ask the Teacher to teach us how to love, looking at the story of Jesus raising the widow’s son found in Luke 7:11-17. The sermon is entitled “Love, the Teacher” and I can’t wait to preach it to you!
See ya in church,
Billy
P.S. We will have some fresh DiscipleSHIP video lessons posted for our families with young children, beginning Sunday, May 2nd. Parents, we hope you will make time Sunday morning before worship, to sit down with your child(ren) to watch. Each video will include a lesson, a memory verse, an activity and a song. You will be able to watch it more than once, so don’t worry if you didn’t get the memory verse or activity the first time around! You will find the newest video here…enjoy and be blessed!
