BREAKING NEWS!!!

Greetings Union Church Family! Hope your week has been healthy and blessed. The weekend is here and I am excited to bring you two items of very good news.

First, I am pleased to announce that beginning this week workers will be installing a new electronic sign to replace the old sign on Steubenville Pike. Due to the generosity of a certain anonymous family in our congregation, we are able to make this much needed upgrade with no impact to our budget. Local company, Smart Signs, will be performing the work and they hope to complete the job by this weekend.

Second, I am also pleased to inform you of a wonderful development within the Union Church Child Care. Child Care Director, Kelsey Liwosz, has completed a year-long re-visioning plan which includes new accreditation as well as a re-branding component. On September 28, 2020 Union Church Session approved these plans and we are pleased to announce that Union Church Child Care will now be known officially as “Union Christian Academy.” For more details please click here. Suffice it to say, I am so proud of her hard work and diligence in this effort. We are blessed by her faithful and visionary leadership.

Finally, I am preaching once again from the book of Revelation this Sunday (I think I’m becoming obsessed with this book!) Once again, we pull back the curtain and get a glimpse of the multitudes worshipping the great Lamb of God in heaven. The texts are Revelation 15:2-4 and 19:1-5 and the title is “Heavenly Worship.”

As we head closer to this wonderful season of Thanksgiving I am grateful not only for the way the Lord is blessing our church family, but I am especially grateful for you! Have a great weekend and see ya in church!

Love,

Billy

P.S. With COVID infection rates rising rapidly in Allegheny County and beyond (In fact, this week’s count of new COVID infections in Allegheny County is higher than any earlier week), we are asking that you remain vigilant in wearing masks to worship and maintaining proper social distancing. Remember, this wont last forever and we are all in this together.

Fall Growth Group: The Kingdom of God

What does Jesus mean by the Kingdom of God? If “the good news (or Gospel) of the Kingdom” is in fact the most succinct way to sum up Jesus’ message, we best take the time to understand as well as possible what the Kingdom of God is all about. Over the course of nine weeks, we will take a look at a few different passages that will help fill in our understanding of the Kingdom of God. Join us Wednesday nights from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary and Online from September 23 – November 18.

Work Day - November 21

Union has a Work Day at World Vision’s Pittsburgh Distribution Center, 210 Overlook Drive, Sewickley, PA on Saturday, November 21, 2020 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Maximum 18 volunteers, age 13 and older. Volunteers must wear a mask and plastic/latex gloves will be provided.

Volunteers Needed!

NEEDED: Ten volunteers to purchase and cook a 15 pound turkey for the Hot Metal Church Thanksgiving meal. Deliver to church on Wednesday, November 25th. If you are interested, please contact Scott or Sinikka Davis at 412-788-9348.

Women's Bible Study

Women's Bible Study: We will be traveling with Paul again, going to Ephesus and then back to Antioch, finishing his 2nd missionary journey. ALL WOMEN ARE INVITED! We meet Tuesday, November 24, at 12:30 in Fellowship Hall. Masks and social distancing are required. We hope to see YOU there!

Angel Tree and Bradley Center

Looks like we have 63 children of prisoners from 32 families through Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree program this year! We will also be working with Bradley Center to get gifts for 12 or so students. That gives us a total of 75 children for Union to support. In the past we have given each Angel Tree Caregiver/family a $25 gift card times the number of children in the home, or in this case 63 $25 gift cards. But even if it’s one gift card per 32 families, we’re still good! More details to come.
