Do Good Week

48 of us teamed up with 5 different organizations this past week to help make a difference in our city. Students helped pack food at the Memphis Food Bank, served adults with special needs at Shepherd’s Haven, beautified a property in South Memphis through Alcy-Ball Community Development, picked up trash in Soulsville through Memphis Rox, and helped set-up, organize, and clean with Habitat for Humanity. And that was just during the day. Our group also worked at Highland’s VBS each night, encouraging and loving on our own kiddos right here at Highland. They were long days but each one started out with a devo thought by different adults, helping our students connect their service to their faith and giving them the resilience they needed to not grow weary in doing good. It was a week full of encouragement, fun, and doing good things to bring glory to God.

This week in HYG:

Sunday: 4-5:30pm- TIME Trip meetings, 6:30-8pm- Vantage Point Mini-Golf

Tuesday: 9am-1:30pm- Power Hour, 2-4pm- FLOAT

Wednesday: 7-8pm- Class w/ Interns

Next Sunday: CAMP HIGHLAND STARTS!!!

(see Youth News for extra details)

Chapel Class - "Intersections of Faith and Work in the Life of a Public School History Teacher" with John Frizzell

"In my work, and perhaps in yours, there are many restrictions on what I can and cannot say and rules that guide how I live a life of faith as a teacher in a public school classroom. Join us and listen in on the struggles of teaching and how I believe my work has been teaching gospels truths in school for the past seven years."

Women's Class - “Discerning the Voice of God: How to Recognize when God is Speaking" by Priscilla Shirer in A-129

Men's Class - A Study of 1-3 John

We will do a chapter a week until the end of summer. Join us in room A-104.

Discipleship Opportunity

We would love for every Highland college student to invest some time being discipled this summer. You will be partnered (probably in small groups) with an adult Highland disciple-maker for 5-6 meetings this summer, over coffee or a meal, and the Bible. We also need to know if mornings, lunch, or evenings are best for you. Contact Christy.cobb@highlandcc.org or eric.gentry@highlandcc.org if you want to be included.

HST Farewell Chapel

Harding School of Theology will have their Farewell Chapel in Memphis on Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 11-11:30AM. All supporters, alumni, and friends of HST are welcome! Leon Sanderson will lead us in a time of worship through song.

Serve With Us

Serving through church gives us a way to belong and meet new people. We’ve got many openings available to fit your gifts and passions, whether it might be serving the Children's Ministry, Youth Ministry, singing on the Praise Team, serving in our Special Needs Ministry, Media Team, and many others.

Where’s Your Treasure?

Matthew 6:19-20 says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Jesus reminds us to treasure and pursue eternal things. But how? We do it by prioritizing our relationship with Jesus, making Him our main thing. Live by faith. Share your faith. Disciple your children. Disciple a young person. Invest in relationships. Attend worship. Give your time, talents, and money to support the works of the church. Those things are eternal. We all love lots of things, so let’s make sure the things we love the most are the things that last.

Outreach Contribution

Thanks to your generosity, we exceeded our Spring goal of $250,000 by $17,500! The excess will be applied to the Fall goal amount. The two Outreach Contributions provide the funding for our missionaries, HCM outreach events, support for children’s homes, special needs, prison ministry, outreach ministry partners such as Hopeworks and Agape and much more. Your giving is making an impact on the kingdom as all these people are spreading the Good News.

4 Convenient Ways to Give

1. Online. Go to www.highlandcc.org/give. You can quickly create an account and make recurring or one-time gifts. ACH is preferred because of the lower fee. Debit and credit cards are accepted, but they charge a 2%-3% fee.
2. Text “Give” to 901-352-3200. This will take you to the website.
3. In Person. You can place cash and checks in one of the offering boxes located in the Chapel and Life Center. This is a great option for your children to give a tangible gift.
4. Mail. You can send checks to the church at 400 North Houston Levee Road, Cordova, TN 38018.
