    I Thessalonians 5:1-28

**Begin your lesson with prayer. Ask the Lord to help you learn and apply His Word to your life.

    1. Share one or two ways you benefitted from the study of I Thessalonians 4:1-18.

    2. As we come to the end of Paul's first letter written to the church in Thessalonica, we will read his final words of exhortation in how believers are to live in view of the Lord's return. Read I Thessalonians 5:1-28. Note a few of the exhortations that capture your attention and tell why.

    3. I Thessalonians 5:1-11 is a portion of scripture that addresses the subject of the Day of the Lord. What do you learn about it from I Thessalonians 5:1-5?

    a. Record what the following verses declare about the timing of His return:

    Matthew 24:36

    Acts 1:7

    b. How does not knowing the exact time of Jesus' return influence you on a daily basis?

    4. Paul told the Thessalonian believers that they were all sons of the light and the day, not of the night nor of darkness (verse 5). Use I Thessalonians 5:6-8 to list the differences between believers and unbelievers.

    5. I Thessalonians 5:11 in the NAS reads, Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. How could you use the promises found in I Thessalonians 5:9-10 to encourage another believer today?

    6. Paul continued his letter with several additional exhortations in how we are to live as we wait for the Lord to return. Read I Thessalonians 5:12-22 in as many different versions as you can before rewriting each of the following in your own words:

    verses 12-13

    verse 14

    verse 15

    verse 16

    verse 17

    verse 18

    verse 19

    verse 20

    verse 21

    verse 22

    7. Which, if any, of the exhortations in I Thessalonians 5:12-22 do you struggle with and need the help of the Holy Spirit to obey?

    a. Commit these to the Lord in prayer before moving on.

    8. According to I Thessalonians 5:23 what was Paul's prayer request for these believers?

    9. What do you learn about the Lord in I Thessalonians 5:23-24?

    a. Share how verse 24 ministers to you today.

    10. Write the last 3 requests Paul included in his letter. See I Thessalonians 5:25-27.

    a. Why do you think he asked for these things?

    11. How does Paul's closing blessing to the Thessalonian church bless you today?

    12. Share a way you were encouraged or challenged through your study of Chapter Five of I Thessalonians.
